Georgie Campbell’s cake. Made especially for the junior XC awards, held in a packed pavilion, back in the days when we could all meet together, in groups of unlimited size – see below. Those were the days. They will return.
Well and there was me thinking there would hardly be enough photos from this year to justify the annual photo special.
I was wrong.
I should have known better.
There were just under 800 photos in this year’s newsletter photo library to choose from, which just goes to show that we certainly made the best of a bad job.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I think that we will emerge from this current hiatus as a stronger club than when we entered it and we were pretty strong then.
This year has proved that no matter what obstacles there are in our way we will endure as a club.
It’s a family.
The commitment and imagination of members has meant a year far far better than any of us had a right to expect.
At the risk of alienating any members with a particular aversion to Liverpool Football Club (or Celtic!) I think the words of You’ll Never Walk Alone are appropriate for what we have all been through and are continuing to go through.
For those of you who may have a prejudice against LFC it’s worth noting that the song was written in 1945 for the musical Carousel, some time before it was adopted as their anthem in the mid ’60s
As a club, we have walked thorough a storm, indeed we are still walking through a storm but we have held our heads up high and I’m sure we do have hope in our hearts.
When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm There’s a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone
Here’s wishing you all a Happy New Year in the hope that 2021 proves to be a whole lot better than 2020 has been.
