“This was the group picture after the most brilliant novelty events we’ve had for a while…..if only I could bottle the fun, smiles, laughs and pure enjoyment….and that was just the onlookers let alone the athletes đ”
Paul Bearman
There wasn’t going to be newsletter this week. I’ve been on holiday so I thought I’d give it a miss.
But.
The Club Championships last Sunday was such a truly memorable event and Tilly Campbell and Max Ross took such wonderful photos I thought It merited a photo special together with some appreciative quotes.
160 competitors, young and old, plus many many parents and supporters and simply the best support crew of helpers and officials you will find anywhere.
Magical.
I’ll let these quotes do the talking and hopefully normal service will be resumed next week.
This sums it up, from Denise Wood.
“”It was so great to watch so many athletes, young and old, living their best sporting lives”…
âI’ve been organising the Club Champs for over 25 years and we’ve had some great days and in my opinion, I can only describe yesterday as the best Club Champs we’ve had in all that time and it just shows once again that throughout the club we have a great team who step up and get involved.
As a part of the Officials and support team, a massive thanks for the part you played in giving our athletes a terrific experience competing….some for the first time.
Special thanks for the support from my ubiquitous “wingman” Sandy and “wingwoman” Carolyne. .
So many brilliant performances but above that so many any smiles and laughs and folks just enjoying the day….and the weather was perfect.
In fact it was a perfect day
Thanksâ

âWe have had time to stop and reflect on what an amazing day we all had. Worth all the preparation for everyone to enjoy! â
Carolyne Johnston
âWe just wanted to express our grateful thanks for a really wonderful few hours of sport for Louie, myself and briefly Louie’s Dad, Jez, today at the Club Champs.
Louie clearly feels very comfortable in the environment you have created and the support and camaraderie between the athletes of all ages and all the organising volunteers was incredibly heart-warming and inspiring.
The organisation of the many events was really impressive but delivered in such a way that made it all seem so relaxed (even though I’m sure it probably doesn’t feel that way) even potential overlaps were managed brilliantly. It was so great to watch so many athletes, young and old, living their best sporting lives.
And the sun shone too!
Thank you once againâ
Denise, Jez and Louie Wood
âI would like to say a big thank you to you for organising and also your continued support of the athletes and especially my two. From day one the boys have felt part of the club and this years club champs was a day they enjoyed immensely (helped by a PB and a race win respectively) so on behalf of them thank you very muchâ
Richard Harrison.
âFollowing on from your email, may I also say that we also really enjoyed yesterdays Club Champs. Due to time restrictions the first year and last yearâs event being restricted somewhat due to Covid, it was the first time we have been able to stay till the end and experience the fun races. As you say, it is clear to see the enjoyment the athletes get from participating and the fantastic friendships and relationships they form within their training groups and across the club.
I arrived yesterday morning with a very grumpy, unwilling and tired 12 year old who after her first week back at school (starting secondary), and having spent two nights camping, was really wanting to go home and do nothing. I only just managed to persuade her to get out of the car and to the javelin start with a minute to spare. But, after two events, the wonderful atmosphere of the day and hanging out with her club friends she warmed into it and changed from âWe are leaving as soon as I am doneâ to wanting to stay till the bitter end. And having an absolutely fabulous day, leaving with a big smile on her face.
I have to say there is not much that would change her mood so quickly!!!
One moment that really stuck in my mind and was so lovely to see was one of the final races, possibly the U11 600m or 400m with the cutest, littlest girl (408), running it way behind the rest of the field. One of the older lads â possibly George? â noticed and ran alongside her for the whole race. Absolutely wonderful and represented the whole ethos of the club.
Thank you to all of you for a great eventâ
Samantha Clifford
