The Final Countdown.
Ready and waiting for Sunday's Club Championships As I write this there are just 66 hours before the first race at this year's Club Championships. Paul Bearman sent me an email at 9.18 this morning and he was already 3 hours in to his day, as he and his team try to organise an event in 10 days that normally takes 5 weeks. If any of you who attend the championships on Sunday have any photos, anecdotes or reports please send them to me for possible inclusion in the newsletter. The weather is looking good, so be there or be square. Bring 'em on. Meanwhile, this week's newsletter reflects on two Open events held last weekend. On Saturday many of our juniors were performing above and beyond in Rugby and on Sunday it was the turn of some of our Masters athletes to perform at The Pingles Stadium in Nuneaton. While compiling these reports I was struck by how, as a club, we once again seem to be punching well above our weight when it comes to the current UK rankings, where we are very heavily represented across all events and across all age groups. Also last weekend, Lewis Byng came 2nd in the British Championships in Manchester despite the fact that he's still only in the U20 age category. Well done Lewis. That's because these sports and activities have stringent plans in place to reduce the risk of Covid-19, and because these venues are classed as Covid-secure given the measures they’ve introduced”. The club’s stringent training protocols at the track have been revised to accommodate the increased number of people who will be at the track on Sunday to keep everyone as safe as we can. However, whilst we as organisers will do what we can it is an individual’s responsibility to take care of themselves and everyone else attending and to take all necessary precautions following government guidelines. The reason for organising the modified champs is to give our athletes at least one chance to compete in this difficult summer and so we are asking that spectators are kept to a minimum to reduce the number of bodies moving around the track. - Anyone showing signs of ill health or COVID-19 should not attend the competition, in any capacity. - Anyone self-isolating because of ‘track and trace’ advice or suspected contact with an infected person should not attend.…
