Super Saturday.
Our gold medal winning U13 girls team - Tessa Parkin, Maddie Linfoot and Niamh Hillard. Having just about dried out from last night's Shakespeare Race, run in pouring rain - a big thank you to the marshals for standing out in such appalling conditions - it's time to report on another superb weekend of Cross Country for the club. This time it was the Warwickshire County Cross Country Championships. The club finished the day in 2nd place overall, with 20 other clubs competing. A magnificent performance. In the process we collected a 10 medal haul, with 3 individual golds, a team gold, an individual silver and bronze, plus 4 team bronze medals. The final positions were as follows : Birchfield Harriers 815 Stratford 623 Coventry Godiva 563 Royal Sutton Coldfield 533 Solihull & Small Heath 441 Paul Hawkins commenting on the performance of the juniors, said "On top of our successes in the WMYACCL this is wonderful news and is down to an excellent group of athletes and a coaching team able to develop them." Many apologies for not having any photos of our Senior ladies team at the weekend. You were obviously all running far too quickly to be captured on camera. These results bode well for the coming weekend's XC fixtures - Birmingham Men's League Race 3 at Coombe Abbey Park, Coventry, the Midland Ladies XC fixture at Park Hall Country Park, Trentham and our table topping juniors are in action in the penultimate fixture of this season's WMYACCL on Sunday at Nuneaton. Finally this week have another of Lesley Kirk's delightful reports, this time on the Wymondham New Year’s Day 10k. Enjoy the rest of your week. Best Wishes David Jones. A trio of gold medallists. From the top - Georgie Campbell, Niamh Hillard and Alex Adams. Warwickshire County Cross Country Championships. Report - David Parkin, Tony Jackson & Paul Hawkins. The Warwickshire County Cross-Country Championships are a longstanding event in the calendar. They give athletes the opportunity to race for individual and team medals on the day, as well as selection to represent Warwickshire at the national inter-counties fixture in March. The event was held at Warley Woods this year, familiar to our junior athletes as one of the annual league fixtures. The races are a little longer than those in the league, giving an extra challenge to all involved. The club had our most successful outing ever with three individual golds, one silver and two bronze, and five team medals. In addition, the Heeley Trophy is awarded to the best club overall, taking into account all age groups. For the last two years we have finished third but this year we moved up to second place, demonstrating our continued improvement. We finished behind Birchfield but beat last years winners Coventry Godiva. The U13s race over 3km, with the girls starting immediately after the boys. In the U13 boys’ race, William Mayes (10th, 10:53), continued his fine league form and looked good as…
